BEACH RENOURNISHMENT RESCHEDULED FOR FALL
Hilton Head Island Mayor Tom Peeples on Wednesday assured members of the tourism industry that none of the upcoming beach renourishment project will take place on the main part of the beach this summer.

VERIZON PURCHASES MCI
MCI HERITAGE TO RECIEVE NEW NAME
Verizon Communications completed a purchase of MCI Communications which will give Hilton Head Island's Heritage golf tournament a new name. Heritage officials announced that this year's PGA Tour event no longer will be called the MCI Heritage. A new name and logo could be unveiled as early as next month, Tournament director Steve Wilmot said A new name and logo could be established as early as February.

US 278 WIDENING UNDERWAY IN BLUFFTON
Hwy 278 will become 6 total lanes from Simmonsville Road to the Moss Creek entrance, merging back into two lanes at the Fording Island Road Extension into Hilton Head Island. The three lanes headed towards I-95 will merge into two lanes heading to Exit 8 at I-95 in Hardeeville.

During the project, two lanes of 278 will be open in each direction from 7AM to 9PM at all times. All paving will be done during the evening and night time hours.

The project officially is scheduled to be completed on November 1, 2006, however could finish sooner through completion incentives.
